Eminem ~ The Eminem Show ~ Review #10

So here’s the third of the “Big 4” releases in the catalog, I think by this time this one came out I had really started taking notice, sorta had no choice 2002 was a weird kinda time I hadn’t really started listening to underground stuff, it was that sorta flashy time where everyone was more into the look instead of the lyrics, some say it was the beginning of the end for hip hop but that’s a topic for another day, so I just gravitated to what ever was different at the time and this definitely was…

Comming form being such a fan of the 90s era, Eminem was the closest thing I knew then to that from a mainstream point of view at the tine, oddly enough I didn’t get this until I’d say around 2010 I got it with the other two releases that can before it, i wanted to see the progression as a lyricist, a lot of fans I’ve seen said this is the best of the his initial run, I could see how the argument could be made, with each album it felt as if everything thing was an improvement across the board, and granted this was an improvement on the previous…

Kinda feel like with this project a statement was trying to be made, it was like for as much as the media was shedding light on Em’s life at the time, it was as if with this the roles were reversed and he turned it on the media, I remember not liking all the political stuff at first, looking back I couldn’t see at the time how the envelope was being pushed so I just found it boring in a way, but it’s not completely an album of politics there are the typical Eminem moments as well, it’s balanced pretty well in my opinion…

Overall it’s a very good project, the lyrics and instrumentals are on point as always, while it is dark as any project before it’s darkness can only go so far as he is a mainstream artist there’s no way it could be completely underground…

Definitely worth a pick up not all that hard to find, hasn’t aged to bad like a lot of stuff from the era, really solid stuff here from one of the G.O.A.T

  1. Just checked out the track listing. Had some popular but good ones like ‘Cleanin’ Out My Closet’ & ‘Without Me’.

Em can definitely be pretty outspoken & controversial. I like that ballsiness that he had.

And his beef with the media is evident in this line from ‘Without Me’:

“So the FCC won’t let me be or let me be me so let me see
they tried to shut me down on MTV but it feels so empty without me”

I took an interest in learning more about Eminem’s life from a friend’s suggestion and ended up finding out that he’s pretty inspirational: he went through many struggles & challenges but came out victorious and successful.

So I collected his inspiring facets in the form of an article. Do check it out here: https://revitellect.wordpress.com/2017/03/10/6-reasons-eminem-is-super-inspiring/
